Japa Meditation: To use it for counting mantras, hold it in your right hand. Use your thumb to move each bead toward you, supporting it with your middle finger, and avoid touching it with your index finger (which symbolizes the ego).
Handling: Malas are considered sacred tools rather than jewelry. It is traditional to store them in a clean, dedicated space when not in use and to remove them before sleeping or bathing
Cleaning: You can gently clean the beads with mild soapy water or wipe them with a damp cloth; wooden and seed beads may occasionally be oiled (e.g., with almond oil) to prevent cracking.
